WORLD BOOKS DAY.png

We had a wonderful day celebrating and promoting a love for reading have a look at some of the things we did!

some pretty awesome book characters came to visit us!

We started the day with an assembly led by YEAR ONE

Love For Reading

Reading skills are important to a child's success in school, as they will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and improve communication and language skills. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children, opening doors to all kinds of new worlds for them. At Cotwall End Primary School, we understand how important it is to foster a love for reading from an early age. As soon as children start school, we ensure that stories are shared and children are regularly heard to read.

We were lucky enough to receive a big present from Santa in December 2022. We are very pleased to introduce our Book Vending Machine. Yes, that’s right… a vending machine filled with books! Here are some photos:

Our fantastic vending machine is situated just outside the main school hall. We are starting to fill it with engaging and exciting books for all ages, from Pre-School to Year 6. We want to ensure that the purpose of this is to promote a love for reading, but also use it for wider achievements, such as supporting charities, work within the community or demonstrating exemplary examples of our six School Values.

We therefore intend to give tokens for the following:

  • Home Reading

  •

During each half term, each teacher will be given five book tokens to reward children within their class who have impressed them with their reading.

  • Behaviour

  •

In assembly each week, 2 golden raffle tickets will be awarded. Children will pick an envelope, which may include a book token for the vending machine.

  • Displaying our School Values

  •

These tokens will be awarded each term by members of SLT for children who have represented the school by demonstrating our school values with the local community.

Every child within the school, from Pre-School to Year 6, will receive at least one book each year. If your child receives a token, you are welcome to come into school to choose a book with them.

I would like to say a massive thank you to our Home School Association, as they have funded the purchase of this vending machine for school. This has been made possible through all the events that have happened in school, plus the huge support from you - our wonderful parents and carers - and the wider community.

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." (Dr. Seuss)

"I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to be comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful. Learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage." (Roald Dahl)

"Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counsellors, and the most patient of teachers." (Charles W. Eliot)
